Happy New Year!! Each new year brings fun and exciting new trends. Colors, flowers, decor, gowns, entertainment, and more! Where to begin? No worries, we are here to help! Each week, yours truly will keep you updated with what’s hot and what’s not!

For my first trend of the year…color! What do you think is hot this year? This may throw you off a bit, but tangerine is the way to go. It’s bold, bright and beautiful. This color can definetely make a statement and bring a lot of life to your big day. Tangerine would look great with lime greens, pinks or even purples. I am loving the teal and tangerine color combination.  Here are a few ideas of how this bold color can be used.

Bridesmaids dresses have definitely become more up to date. Bridesmaids dresses do not need to look  like actual “bridesmaids” gowns. They can be trendy, cute and stylish for your lovely ladies to strut down the aisle. Find something that appeals to everyone in your bridal party. Not all of your gals have to wear the same dress. However be careful that that they stay within the same color palette, fabric and length.

Here are some pics of my new favorite dresses for the upcoming season!

Jeff Maltz and Gillian Garrett: Married May 1, 2011

It was a cloudless May morning as guests began to take their seats on the patio of The Firehouse in Old Sacramento. As Gillian made her way down the aisle wearing a gown passed down from her mother it seemed as if time stood still. When the ceremony got underway, Jeff and Gillian stood embracing each other as they spoke their vows, and exchanged their rings.

The huge shade trees, and branch covered brick on the patio was splashed with spring color thanks to Cheryl with Accents by Sage. The guests enjoyed a signature cocktail while the new couple posed for pictures in the cobblestone alley behind The Firehouse with photographer Mike Greener with Greener Visuals. A breathtaking spread of artfully crafted appetizers was presented by Shannon and The Firehouse staff.

This no-nonsense couple had succeeded in their mission to have a “no-fuss” wedding in all respects but one, the sweets!  They began at the hotels where the out of town guests were greeted with a custom cookie creation. For Dessert an amazing and decadent spread of confectionery was assembled even miniature root beer floats! The finale was a send-off with a lavender handmade marshmallow all thanks to Carissa from Sugar and Spice Specialty Desserts.

Family and Friends lined the alley way and waved good-bye as the couple rode away in a  Silver Ride PT Cruiser. Jeff and Gillian are headed to Africa for three weeks and we wish them all the happiness in the world! Thank you both for letting Catrina Maria Design be a part of your special day.

Bride and Groom laughing in Capitol Park, Sacramento

So cute!

Sarah and Chad are one of those couples you just can’t help but love.  They are so happy and sweet together, and they’re constantly grinning and making each other laugh.  The best part about these two?  They don’t hesitate to let you in on their little jokes and make you feel like an instant friend.  Well, the girls here at Catrina Maria Designs absolutely L-O-V-E Sarah and Chad and we had a blast planning their wedding and seeing it come off beautifully.  Their ceremony was held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, and the reception at Sacramento’s swanky Sutter Club.  If we could sum up their wedding day in one word, it would have to be unique.  From strutting their stuff down the street to the music of a New Orleans jazz band, to taking over the garage rooftop at the Sutter Club, Sarah and Chad had a day that was truly their own.  More details on this fabulous couple and their utterly unique wedding day to come soon!  {A huge thank you to Jessamyn Harris Photography for letting us use these gorgeous photos!}

July 11th, 2009 Wedding at the Citizen Hotel

Nicole and Treb!

What a fantastic evening of fun, amazing service and gorgeous decor! Nicole and Treb were married in the first floor ballroom of the new Citizen Hotel in Downtown Sacramento. Married under a teal and brown canopy of flowing fabric with incredible crystal accents and gorgeous colorful flowers. I never knew pops of red would feel so rich amongst brown and teal.

Harmony and her staff at the Citizen were extremely helpful and made the night go flawlessly!

The reception was held on the 7th floor terrace of the hotel. The fabric ceiling draping is to die for and the views of the city are stunning. Katie with Ambience floral gets all of the credit for these beautiful centerpieces accented with amber jewels and peacock feathers. They were the perfect touch to Nicole’s perfectly chosen pallet of teal and brown.

The cake, done by Divine Desserts, was beautiful and delicious.

The photography was done by Lisa Richmond and her assistant photographers. They worked hard to capture every perfect image of the happy couple. I think they started as early as 11:00am and I didn’t see them leave until at least 11:00pm…incredible! Way to not miss an opportunity to catch each moment.

The evening ended in the Citizen’s 14th floor suite. The balcony was the perfect spot for Treb to give Nicole her last surprise for the night. What a sweet finish to a perfect day: another ring!
